King Saud University Council has approved a campus-wide ban on smoking during its fourth session meeting, effective on December 7, 2010 (the starting of new Islamic year). The council has taken this decision to make KSU completely smoke-free.

The Directorate of Campus Safety and Security has printed and distributed posters and warning signs that smoking is banned in all units and Colleges of KSU, as per Article Eight in the Smoking Ban List and the follow-up of the permanent committee to ban smoking.

To enforce the smoking ban, a contravention ticket design was adopted by the permanent committee. These contraventions will be logged in the electronic smoking ban data base, which is linked to the Deanship of Faculty and Personnel Affairs, the Deanship of Admissions and Registration and the university-wide Directorate of Campus Safety and Security. Personnel from this directorate will implement the smoking ban and ticket writing, as stipulated in Article Seven in the Smoking Ban List.

The Directorate of Campus Safety and Security hopes that members of the university community as well as it visitors will refrain from smoking on university campus and external units, in line with the university decision.
