The Community Relations Unit at the College of Nursing organised a walking marathon on World Diabetes Day. As part of the activities for World Diabetes Day, the Community Relations Unit at the College of Nursing organised a walking marathon on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, under the slogan "Sustainable Habits for Permanent Health." The marathon aims to raise awareness about the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and sustainable healthy habits to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes. The marathon witnessed the participation of 67 female students, faculty members, and administrative staff of King Saud University, who walked continuously for three rounds.

Dr. Manal Al-Harbi, the Vice Dean of the College of Nursing, declared the start of the marathon at 10:00 am, which took place in the main hall of the female student campus. At the end of the event, amidst the support and encouragement of the attendees for the World Diabetes Day activity, Dr. Ibtisam Muhammad Al-Qahtani, the Head of the Community Relations Unit at the College of Nursing, announced the names of the top ten winners. They were honoured by Dr Ghuzail bint Saad Al-Essa, the Advisor to the President of the University for Female Student Campus Affairs, and Dr Manal Al-Harbi. The winners of the top three places, Rima Al-Dufayan (first place), Ghaida Al-Otaibi (second place), and Rana Al-Mutairi (third place), received first-place medals and a free 15-day subscription to "Mafhoom Al-Diet" for healthy meals.

The fourth-place medal went to Muntaha Al-Ahmari, the fifth-place medal to Haya Al-Sunaid, the sixth-place medal to Reem Al-Othmani, the seventh-place medal to Renad Abdullah, the eighth-place medal to Fatima Munaqri, the ninth-place medal to Reem Munaqri, and the tenth-place medal to employee Reem Al-Muqham.

In conclusion, the Head of the Community Relations Unit emphasised the importance of finding innovative and sustainable solutions to improve healthy lifestyle practices and promote the sustainability of sports activities in the Saudi community to reduce the spread of diabetes and build a vibrant sports community. Engaging in sports is one of the essential empowering elements of sustainable development and improving the quality of life for all segments of society.
