The University Celebrates Saudi Founding Day
Under the patronage of the Acting President of King Saud University, Prof. Abdullah bin Salman Al-Salman, King Saud University held a grand celebration for Saudi Founding Day on Thursday, 21 Sha'ban 1446 AH (February 20, 2025), at the main theater of the Female University Campus. The event was attended by the university's vice presidents, deans of colleges and supporting deanships, as well as faculty members and students, all expressing their pride in this significant historical occasion.
The ceremony began with the Saudi national anthem, followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran. A poem titled “Atta Al-Moass’es” (The Founder Has Come) was then recited, reflecting the pride of generations in a homeland with a history spanning over three centuries, showcasing the deep historical and civilizational roots of the Saudi state. This was followed by a patriotic operetta titled “Sirat Al-Ezz” (Saga of Glory,) which narrated the rich history of the kingdom, performed by a group of talented students from King Saud University.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ali bin Kanakher Al-Dalbahi, delivered a speech in which he expressed pride in the deep-rooted history of Saudi Arabia, from its foundation by Imam Muhammad bin Saud to its present-day prosperity under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He also announced that the Acting President of the University has approved the establishment of three new student clubs aimed at nurturing artistic talents among students which are: the Music Club, the Design and Fashion Club, and the Cinema Club. These clubs reflect the university’s commitment to supporting students' artistic and creative talents.
The event concluded with an award ceremony in which the Acting University President honored the winners of the Founding Day Art Competition. The competition invited talented students and faculty to showcase their creativity, with participation from external partners who contributed to the university's celebrations. The event was further enriched with a performance of the traditional Saudi Ardah dance, celebrating the nation’s rich heritage.
The celebration also featured interactive booths highlighting the history and heroism of the Saudi state since its founding. These included, the Flag Booth: Showcasing the history of the Saudi national flag since the establishment of the kingdom; The Art Booth: Displaying paintings, photography, and historic musical compositions by talented university students; The Traditional Tent: Representing Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage, with students participating in traditional activities to honor and preserve their national identity.
Organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs, this event aimed to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage, strengthen national identity, and enhance historical awareness. It also reflected the progress and achievements of the Kingdom over three centuries, demonstrating the university’s commitment to commemorating national occasions and promoting historical heritage among students and faculty.
