Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bandar bin Nasser Al-Jafen, inaugurated the activities of World Asthma Day on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The event was organized by the Pediatric Pulmonology Unit in the outpatient clinics lobby at King Khalid University Hospital, with the participation of the Saudi Pediatric Association and the Saudi Society for Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The event was held as part of the College’s efforts to enhance health awareness and empower patients and their families to optimally manage chronic diseases.

The event aimed to raise awareness of asthma, correct common misconceptions associated with the disease, and introduce the triggers and irritants that exacerbate its symptoms. It also sought to equip families with the necessary skills to manage the disease and reduce its complications, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life of patients, particularly children. The event included seven specialized educational booths covering asthma definition and symptoms, major triggers and irritants, signs of asthma attacks and methods of managing them, as well as available treatment options and the proper use of inhalers and supportive devices. In addition, the booths introduced the asthma treatment plan and highlighted the services of the Severe Asthma Clinic and its role in monitoring advanced cases.

The event also featured educational messages directed to families on the importance of early detection of the disease, recognizing warning signs of asthma attacks, and adhering to recommended treatment plans. It emphasized that good asthma control enables children to lead normal and safe daily lives.

This event is part of the awareness and community programs implemented by the College of Medicine, stemming from its role in promoting health awareness, enhancing the prevention of chronic diseases, and supporting the quality of life of the community.
