Environmental Initiative to Promote Awareness and Volunteerism

King Saud University, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, launched a large-scale environmental initiative across the Riyadh region under the slogan “Towards a Clean World.” The initiative aims to improve quality of life, raise awareness about environmental protection, and highlight the negative impacts of pollution, while reinforcing the values of volunteerism and social responsibility among university students.
This initiative aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives for environmental sustainability and combating natural threats such as desertification. It is implemented as part of the Scouts Unit’s volunteer programs, in collaboration with specialized student clubs such as the Agricultural Engineering Club and the Environmental Sciences Club, as well as several internal and external partners.
Running from September 10 to October 30, the initiative includes field activities and awareness events that combine environmental education with the promotion of volunteer work and community engagement, targeting university students and the wider public.
The initiative focuses on three main pillars: environmental awareness through media campaigns and field activities, waste removal and cleanup drives focusing on cleaning parks, valleys, and natural areas to encourage environmental responsibility and volunteerism, and afforestation and vegetation restoration with the planting of over 1,000 trees in designated sites in collaboration with student clubs.
The initiative seeks to create a sustainable impact that supports the Vision 2030 goals of improving quality of life, raising awareness of pollution’s harmful effects, enhancing the local climate, reducing air pollution, and increasing oxygen levels. It also aims to beautify urban spaces and combat desertification.
King Saud University emphasized that this initiative reflects its pioneering role in community service and sustainable development. The university reaffirmed that environmental protection is both a national duty and a shared responsibility, essential for preserving the Kingdom’s natural resources. It also confirmed its ongoing commitment to launching initiatives and programs that enhance environmental awareness and sustainability, reinforcing the Kingdom’s regional and global leadership in environmental protection and sustainable development.
