Dr. Rakan from the College of Medicine and His Research Team Enable Their Invention by Signing a Licensing Agreement
In line with the goal of stimulating human capital to achieve a sustainable knowledge-based economy, and in the presence of the Acting President of King Saud University, Professor Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Masmali, and through the efforts of the university’s research team led by Professor Dr. Rakan bin Ibrahim Nazer, Professor of Cardiac Sciences at the College of Medicine, Cardiac Surgery Consultant Dr. Nabil Ahmed Ali from the University Medical City, and Dr. Ali bin Mafrah Al-Barati from the College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Saud University, represented by the Entrepreneurship Institute, and Surgical Industrial Company in the field of surgical tools and solutions, today signed a licensing agreement for a patent of an innovative tool for retracting the sternum, preventing lateral sternal relaxation during open-heart surgery, titled: “Sternal Retractor System.” The signing took place at the agreement signing platform at the university’s pavilion during the Global Health Forum 2025.
This patent, granted to this invention by the United States Patent Office, is considered a pioneering innovation aimed at enhancing safety and efficiency in cardiac surgical procedures. It embodies King Saud University’s vision of empowering innovation and innovators and contributes to transforming ideas into opportunities and national achievements with a positive impact on medicine and society.
