The Department of Ophthalmology at the College of Medicine Holds the Resident Research Day 2025 and Celebrates Postgraduate Graduates

On behalf of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Asim Al-Fadda, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, attended the special ceremony and recognition honoring graduates of postgraduate programs in subspecialties of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery. This event coincided with the organization of the Resident Research Day in Ophthalmology for the year 2025 by the King سعود University Research Excellence Center in Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology, on the morning of Tuesday, 9/12/2025, in the Main Hall of Building No. (2) at King Abdulaziz University Hospital. The event aimed to honor distinguished individuals, support a high-quality competitive scientific environment, highlight the role of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Research Excellence Center in advancing specialized research, encourage researchers and physicians to increase scientific productivity, and celebrate graduates of fellowship programs while emphasizing their role in serving the healthcare sector.
The latest research projects of ophthalmology residents for the year 2025 were also presented, in the presence of a distinguished group of experts and researchers, faculty members and consultants, specialists, fellows and board doctors, interns, and medical students in ophthalmic surgery. Dr. Ahmed Bahammam was the guest of honor for this year.
The importance of this initiative lies in highlighting the pioneering role of the department and the center in supporting innovation and scientific research in the field of ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery, shedding light on the outstanding research achievements accomplished by physicians and researchers at the hospital and the university, promoting a culture of scientific research, motivating professional development, expanding knowledge, and enhancing the quality of eye care at both local and global levels.
The department also celebrated the graduation of an elite group of physicians from fellowship and subspecialty programs for the academic year 2025, namely: Dr. Abeer Al-Hazani, Retina and Uveitis; Dr. Rahaf Mandoura, Retina and Uveitis; Dr. Badr Al-Salman, Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery; Dr. Khalid Al-Buraik, Cornea, External Eye Diseases, and Refractive Surgery; and Dr. Lulwa Bobshait, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
The Department of Ophthalmology also honored the Best Teacher of the Department for the academic year 2024–2025: Dr. Ismail Al-Ghamdi, with the Best Teacher Award.
At the conclusion of the event, the best resident physician from each training year was honored as follows: Dr. Bayan Al-Shehaib as Best First-Year Resident; Dr. Munira Al-Dufyan as Best Second-Year Resident; Dr. Fares Al-Mutairi as Best Third-Year Resident; and Dr. Musab Al-Aql as Best Fourth-Year Resident.
