With the Attendance of Dean of the College of Medicine Dr. Bandar Al-Jufan, the Department of Cardiac Sciences Holds Its Fourth Research Day with the Participation of More Than 30 Scientific Research Projects

With the attendance of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bandar bin Nasser Al-Jufen; the Chief Executive Officer of the University Medical City and member of the judging committee for the oral research presentations of the Fourth Research Day of the Department of Cardiac Sciences, Prof. Ahmed bin Salah Hirsi; and the Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Asim bin Abdulaziz Al-Fadda, and with the participation of more than 30 scientific research projects, the Department of Cardiac Sciences and the King Fahad Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery organized the Fourth Research Day of the Department of Cardiac Sciences on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at the western building of the College of Medicine. The event brought together a distinguished group of academics, consultants, researchers, cardiovascular specialists, fellowship physicians, and medical students as part of efforts to support research activity and promote a culture of academic and scientific excellence in the fields of cardiovascular diseases.
In a speech delivered on the occasion, Dr. Al-Jufen emphasized that the Fourth Annual Research Day reflects the College’s commitment to supporting scientific research and innovation. He noted that high-quality medical research contributes to advancing medical knowledge and improving the quality of healthcare. He also commended the efforts of the Department of Cardiac Sciences and the King Fahad Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery in strengthening the research environment and empowering researchers, affirming the College’s continued support for all scientific initiatives that contribute to academic excellence and community service.
The program commenced with a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Fawzan Al-Kuraya, who discussed several recent developments and emerging trends in medical scientific research and highlighted the importance of utilizing research to enhance clinical practice and improve healthcare outcomes. The scientific program included a number of research sessions and presentations showcasing the latest studies in cardiovascular diseases, in addition to a scientific poster exhibition. The event also provided researchers, fellowship physicians, and medical students with the opportunity to present and discuss their scientific projects with specialists and experts, thereby enhancing their research and academic skills and supporting the Department’s and Center’s vision of building a scientific environment that fosters creativity and innovation.
The Fourth Research Day concluded with the recognition of outstanding researchers and the announcement of the winning research projects and scientific posters. Dr. Abdulilah Al-Saeed, a resident physician in the Internal Medicine Program, received the award for Best Oral Research Presentation for his study entitled: “Regional Variation in Family History of Sudden Cardiac Death and the Benefit of Screening Programs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” Dr. Sarah Al-Raddadi, a Cardiology Fellow, received the award for Best Case Report Poster for her poster entitled: “Sudden Coronary Artery Spasm Following Ondansetron Administration: A Rare but Life-Threatening Condition.” Dr. Talal Fahad Al-Jabari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiac Sciences, won the award for Best Research Poster for his qualitative study entitled: “Adapting to Life After Coronary Stent Implantation: A Qualitative Study of Patients’ Experiences and Adaptation Processes,” in recognition of his distinguished research contributions and the quality of his scientific output.
The Research Day represents a continuation of the efforts of the Department of Cardiac Sciences and the King Fahad Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery to enhance scientific productivity and support research excellence in line with the University’s goals of leadership, innovation, and community service.
