The Excellence Center of Science and Mathematics Education (ECSME) will present a research abstract at the joint winter meeting of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association for Physics Teachers (AAPT) in Washington, USA in the month of February 2010. The ECSME abstract presentation was accepted by the conference committee, will be presented by Dr. Hisham Alhadlaq, ECSME Co-director for Administrative and Financial Affairs. This participation is an outcome of the joint work in 2009 between the ECSME researchers and Noble laureate in Physics, Professor Carl Wieman. The efforts of the Center reflect their commitment to participating in international conferences, in order to contribute their research to the global scientific community.
Dr. Alhadlaq pointed out that this participation is an activation of the research cooperation contract between the ECSME and the Professor Carl Wieman initiative, University of Colorado at Boulder, USA. The research focuses on measuring the students’ beliefs towards physics in Saudi universities, as part of the research efforts directed to the development of science education at the university level in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Alhadlaq has presented another research paper during the past summer in collaboration with Professor Carl Wieman and his team at the University of Colorado, during the summer conference of AAPT at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and during the conference on multi-media learning and teaching of physics, which was held at the University of Udine, Italy, under the auspices of the European Society of Physics. At the end of his statement Dr. Alhadlaq expressed thanks to the Ministry of Higher Education for their financial support for the Center, and HE the University Rector and the vice rector of the university for Graduate Studies and Research for their support and ongoing encouragement of the Center.
