The student activities unit represented in the student work project organized a workshop for decoupage fair to acquire female students with decoupage skills in producing art and useful works. The workshop comes in the light of exploring students’ talents and achieve the deanship vision of developing these skills to reach a professional level.
The workshop reviewed the history of decoupage as the art of using old paper for pieces of fine art. This art was known in China in the 12th century BC and became popular in France in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was known as the art of the poor because people used it to decorate old furniture by putting varnished paper scraps on the furniture.
Some female students introduced the tools and raw materials of decoupage, the way to use them, and presented some sample works.
The Art and Culture club students showed that decoupage is an easy art where simple and old materials are used to produce beautiful drawings or new-look furniture such as vases, boxes, and ceramic dishes. These works look hand-made crafts that can be applied to different surfaces such as wood, carton, metal, and pottery. Decoupage falls into three categories: under varnish decoupage, under glass decoupage and three-dimension decoupage.
42 female students actively attended the workshop which produced beautiful and useful works.
