Under the patronage of His Excellency Rector of King Saud University Dr. Abdullah Al-Othman, the College of Pharmacy opened the Dr. Walid Kayyali Chair for Pharmaceutical Industries on Sunday, 24 February.

This is the product of the Research Chairs Program that now counts 55 chairs or so. On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Al-Othman pointed that the Research Chairs Program aims to contribute for the Kingdom to occupy a distinguished international position in excellence, creativity, research, and development to support a knowledge-based national economy; to activate the University's role in contributing to sustainable growth; to attract the best locally and internationally distinguished researchers in various specializations and benefit from their expertise; and to train various national competencies.

This opening is the first practical activation and realistic implementation of the realization of this program. The challenge is not only to sign contracts for research Chairs, but also to register concrete scientific accomplishments that would be beneficial to the nation's development and the enhancement of the role of scientific research in effectively contributing to the role of the University in building a knowledge-based national economy.
