King Saud University Rector Abdullah Al-Othman and Secretary General Yussef Al-Othaimeen of the King Abdullah Abdulaziz Foundation for his Parents for Developmental Housing was inaugurated yesterday.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Al-Othman expressed his deep gratitude to the King for his generous contribution and support for establishing the Research Chair for Developmental Housing (Both Architectural and Social Research), his excellency emphasized King Abdullah's deep vision, not only through financial support but through continuous  development of strategic national goals that serve the current and future needs of the nation.

Dr. Al-Othman welcomed the mutual cooperation between King Saud University and King Abdullah Abdulaziz Foundation's Chair for Developmental Housing, paying tribute to the latter's Secretary General, Dr. Yussef Al-Othaimeen and his contribution for the success and strength of the university, stressing the great support that the University gets from The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Royal Highness The Crown-Prince, and also from the state officials.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Othman also welcomed Professor Chales Chogull International Expert, from University of Toronto, Canada, and supervisor of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Foundation's Chair for Developmental Housing (The Architectural Research), who attended the opening ceremony of the Chair. Dr. Al-Othman expressed his satisfaction with the idea behind the Chair and the goals it aspires to achieve, referring to the large proportion of the young Saudi people who aim at acquire adequate housing.

His Excellency also made reference to the great efforts of the College of Architecture and Planning in order to achieve international supremacy, being part of a global developmental strategy led by The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown-Prince. In addition, Dr. Al-Othman stressed on the availability of the capabilities for the success of the Chair, namely the patronage of this Chair by His Royal Highness, King Abdullah  Abdulaziz in person, with the participation of an important institution led by Dr. Yussef Al-Othaimeen, a former academic staff member at the University, in addition to the fact that this Chair is concerned with an important social issue and a great challenge in the field of developmental housing.

Dr. Al-Othman also referred to the scientific experiments in the field of research Chairs at the university, adding that their results have reached international levels under the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

On the other side, Dr. Yussef Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Foundation for his Parents for Developmental Housing expressed his happiness for the inauguration of the Chair, which should serve the scientific and practical research in the domain of affordable housing that will lead to the implementation of housing projects from which the Saudi nationals will benefit. Dr. Al-Othaimeen added that the goal of the Foundation is to provide adequate housing for low-revenue citizens in order to help them raise their educational, professional, and living standards.

Dr. Al-Othaimeen also mentioned that the idea behind the notion of "developmental" which is part of the name of the Foundation refers to the goal of the Foundation which is to improve the social, cultural, and the living standards of the inhabitants, in order to improve their social stuatus and living standard, stressing the fact that the Foundation should also serve to carry out social surveys and field studies concerned with the housing needs in the Kingdom, from which the government and the private sectors should benefit, in addition to the development programs that should help the inhabitants to develop their skills in all sectors.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Al-Othman expressed his gratitude to King Saud University for having been one of its students, and one of its teachers later on. He also expressed his great happiness and pride for all the scientific activities taking place at the University, and his admiration for the societal cooperation between the University and the civil society institution, and at the same time requesting Dr. Al-Othaimeen to take advantage of this generous Royal donation in order to provide housing solutions and implementing them. The rector also conveyed the greetings of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to all the university staff members, referring to the University's leading role in the service of higher education in the Kingdom.

After the inauguration ceremony, His Excellency Dr. Al-Othman exchanged trophies and souvenirs with Dr. Al-Othaimeen, and trophies were also presented to Prof. Ali Al-Ghamdi, King Saud University Deputy-Rector for Branches Affairs, and supervisor of the Research Chairs Program at the university, as well as to the Dean of the College of Architecture and Planning, Professor Abdulaziz Al-Mighrin and to Professor Chales Chogull.
