Alshaya of the Excellence Center of Science and Mathematics EducationThe Chair of Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Obeikan for the Development of Science and Mathematics Education held its second scientific workshop for the Chair’s “Project of Curriculum Development of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Public Education: Theory and Applications” on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at King Saud University’s College of Science.

The workshop, under the patronage of College of Science Dean Awad Al-Johany, also was simulcast at the Center of Science and Medical Studies in Malaz for female faculty and students.

Workshop participants included:

  • Dr. Nasser Al-Uwaishiq, director of the education department at the Obeikan Education Co. and a specialist in mathematics education;
  • Dr. Ahmed Rafea, director of science development at the Ubaikan Education Co. and a specialist in science education;
  • Dr. Mohammed Bin Abdullah Zughaibi, office of the deputy minister of education for planning and development and a specialist in science education.

The workshop was moderated by Dr. Ibraheem Alolyan, a member of the Chair’s scientific team and a assistant professor of mathematics at the KSU College of Science.

Obeikan Education Co.Chair supervisor Fahad Alshaya emphasized that the curriculum development of mathematics and natural sciences in public education in Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most important projects adopted by the Ministry of Education. It is being executed in collaboration with the Obeikan Education Co. and United States-based McGraw-Hill, a renowned expert in the development of educational tools.

Dr. Alshaya added that the Chair of Sheikh Obeikan is one of the research chairs inaugurated by KSU last year through the financial support of the sons of Sheikh Abdul-Rahman Obeikan.

The Chair’s goals include “leadership, research excellence and qualitative professional development in the fields of science and mathematics in public education in the Kingdom” with the objective to “contribute to the development of learning and teaching sciences and mathematics in public education through applied educational research, quality consultancies and programs of professional development for specialists.”
