King Saud University

The King Saud University Research Chair Program has been an invaluable component of the University’s steady rise in international stature, complementing the academic research infrastructures in important scientific, medical, and technical domains. The many chairs at KSU provide researchers of specific academic and scientific fields with world-class resources and collaboration with international experts, which are needed to develop solutions for long-standing challenges. In addition, the chairs are extremely beneficial to Saudi Arabia’s economic and social sectors.

The Aldrees Chair for the Biography of the Prophet and its Contemporary Studies, launched on October 16, 2010 by KSU Rector Abdullah Al-Othman and a number of national dignitaries, is supervised by Dr. Adel bin-Ali Al-Shaddy. It is a comprehensive scientific program devoted to the studies, research, and strategies needed to fully explore and document the life of the Prophet (PBUH), providing a means of following his example in all walks of life. The Chair also supports the academic and financial needs of scholars in this field.

Using the best possible means and latest technology, the Chair is committed to achieving local and international leadership in biographical research regarding the Prophet of Islam, highlighting his ethics, character and virtues; in short, presenting a true picture of his teachings and example, free of errors or exaggerations.

In addition to the Aldrees Chair’s extensive research activities, it offers many essential services such as consultation and providing thorough answers to questions and misconceptions about the Prophet’s (PBUH) biography, and believes that wisdom and examples taken from the biography have great efficacy for ameliorating many contemporary and age-old human ills. Highlighting the characteristics of mercy, tolerance, fairness, and integrity in the life of the Prophet (PBUH), the Chair also seeks to address the obstacles that make it difficult for non-Muslims to discover the splendor of his life.

Dr. Al-Shaddy, who has authored a number of books and is a frequent speaker at conferences, has encouraged his team to be active in meeting the goals of the Chair. They have certainly responded enthusiastically having written various books and published scientific papers, as well as making presentations at international conferences.

In less than a year, the Chair has held workshops on collecting their research and publications on digital repositories, the upbringing of children according to the biography of the Prophet (PBUH) and how to introduce his biography to non-Muslims.
