"Queen Effat - the Pioneer of Female Education"

ampus Ctudent Semale the College of Dentistry at KSU Fof March 2018, thOn the 18hosted a conference in which princess Lolowah bint Faisal Al Saud talked about her mother Queen Effat Al-Thunayan, with the attendance of princess Haifa Al-Faisal.

The conference began with the recitation of verses from the Quran followed by a welcome speech from Dr. Maysaa’ Al Qurashi, Dean of Science and Medical Studies Departments, on behalf of Vice-Rector for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Einas Al-Eisa. She thanked HRH for sharing the inspiring journey of her mother to support women in all fields.

Then, a film was played showing KSU since its establishment until the Female Student Campus project, its colleges, facilities, the services provided for the students, and some experiences of the alumni. After that, a presentation on Queen Effat which marked the beginning of the educational process for Saudi women and the role of the Queen in this process, and the society's receptiveness for this change. A documentary film was played about Queen Effat which shed the light on her pioneering role in female education and women empowerment, and the opening of the first-ever school for girls in Saudi Arabia “Dar al-Hanan School”.

Furthermore, in her speech, Princess Lolowah expressed her pleasure for hosting her and was ecstatic over KSU high ranking on the world best universities list, and praised the changes taking place in the Kingdom under the reign of King Salman. She added that this year is "the harvest year for Saudi woman" which is the outcome of 7 decades of a wise leadership. She spoke to the audience about her mother from birth in Turkey until marriage to her father, King Faisal, and overall accomplishments not only in education but also in all fields.

At the end, the Vice Dean of College of Dentistry, Dr. Samar Al-Saleh, thanked HRH, and added that Queen Effat is an idol not only for Saudi women but for all women. Finally, princess Lolowah was honored for her participation.

This conference comes in line with the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and within KSU's framework to increase women’s workforce participation, invest in their productive capabilities, and empower them to contribute to the development of our society.
