KSU Team Participate at Solar House Design
Under the supervision of elite faculty members and engineers KSU students from different majors will participate in the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 in Dubai. It is an international competition in which universities from all over the world meet to design, build and operate a grid-connected house that only uses solar energy source. Moreover, it has to be equipped with all the technologies that permit maximum energy efficiency and energy conservation.
Israa Al-Obathani, a participating student from the College of Business Administration asserted that they are promoting awareness on solar system and sustainability in houses by presenting the Solar House. This comes in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 to diversify renewable energy resources due to the high demand. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia's climate and high levels of heat exposure make it a potentially huge hub for solar energy since it is located geographically in the Sun-belt.
KSU Team is to participate in the competition held on 29/10/2018 sponsored by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the U.S. Department of Energy, The team is done with the design and is currently working on execution and construction in KSU campus.
Not only will the owners of solar houses manage to avoid the high cost of electricity, but they can also profit by selling the excess energy to the electric company, which in turn can increase the property’s worth.
