King Saud University, represented by the Deanship of Student Affairs, hosted the Saudi Universities Sports Federation Championship for Female Students in its second season. The first match started on Tuesday 20/3/1443 under the patronage of the Minister of Education, H.E. Dr. Hamad M.H. Al Sheikh, and in the presence of Vice-Rector for Female Student Affairs, Prof. Ghada Bin Saif.

The tournament was opened with a speech by Prof. bin Saif, in which she stressed the importance of sport as one of the influential means for social progress in accordance with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, from which many sports initiatives have emerged that contributed to the empowerment of women in leadership and helped many girls achieve their dreams.

Prof. bin Saif also pointed out that Saudi women today have proved their competence based on the great opportunities given by our wise government led by the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques ,King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, may God protect them, to make women active in society

She then thanked His Excellency the minister of Education, Dr. Al-Sheikh, and His Excellency the President of King Saud University, Prof. Badran Al-Omar, for their support to make the university a place for creativity and that the students are always equipped with the values of Science and knowledge.

H. E. Mezna Almarzooqi, Advisor at Saudi Universities Sports Federation and Head of the Women's Sports Development Team, said that female sport is one of the most important projects of the Federation, through which it seeks to achieve gender equality.

The participation of women in Saudi sports has increased by 149% since 2015; the participation of 22 women's national teams in official regional championships in various sports in the recent years is a sign of a significant progress.

The championships will continue until Friday 23/3/1443 AH with the participation of 7 universities: King Saud University, Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, Northern Borders University, Jouf University, Alfaisal University, and INAYA Medical Colleges.
