The Vice Rectorate for Projects at KSU celebrated on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Environment Week under the slogan “Our Environment is Our Responsibility”, under the auspices of Dr. Nouf Al-Awda, the advisor of the Vice Rector for Projects for Female Student Affairs in the courtyard in front of Princess Sarah bint Abdullah Library.
The exhibit area consisted of different sections, each of which provide information about the environment and all the external conditions that affect it. Among which was the recycling section, which promoted recycling and reusing what would otherwise be thrown away, such as using eggshells as fertilizer for plants. In addition to the environmental pollution section, where the topic of environmental pollution was introduced and divided into three main types: soil pollution, water pollution, air pollution. It also displayed the negative impacts of pollution on the environment and the life of organisms in general. The section of desertification and deforestation aimed to explain the negative effects of deforestation, including less oxygen production, fewer crops, and negative impact on tourism. The section featured the fines of cutting down trees is Saudi Arabia which is 50,000 Riyals for cutting trees for trade use, and 5000 riyals for cutting a single tree.
The event also included an interactive activity of afforestation and planting flowers with the participation of Sustainability Administration and Environmental Development. The Vice-Rectorate for Projects offered a volunteering opportunity on the National Volunteer Portal for everyone to participate in which is to plant the Female University Campus. The importance of activating Environment Week lies in the important role of the ecosystem both living and non-living in sustaining life on earth.
