On Behalf of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Al-Fadda, Opens the 51st Symposium of the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery

On behalf of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Asim bin Abdulaziz Al-Fadda, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, inaugurated today the 51st Annual Symposium of the Department of Ophthalmology titled: “The 51st Symposium of the Department of Ophthalmology: Recent Advances in Uveitis” at the main hall of King Abdulaziz University Hospital. The symposium is organized by the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery at the College of Medicine and the University Medical City, in collaboration with the Saudi Ophthalmological Society, and accredited for six Continuing Medical Education (CME) hours.
The symposium aims to highlight the latest scientific developments in the diagnosis and treatment of microbial uveitis, recent advances in ocular imaging techniques, laboratory analyses, and evidence-based therapeutic options, contributing to the enhancement and development of the expertise of ophthalmology practitioners and specialists in this vital field.
The event was attended by Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Rajhi, CEO of King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and Research Center; Professor Dr. Hatem Kalantan, Medical Director at King Abdulaziz University Hospital; Professor Dr. Hani Al-Muzaini, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology; as well as a distinguished group of international expert speakers, specialists, and participants.
For his part, the Chairman of the Symposium Organizing Committee, Professor Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Asrar, explained that the symposium addressed several important and specialized topics through a series of lectures on viral uveitis and retinitis, granulomatous uveitis, the role of advanced imaging techniques (ICG and OCT-A) in diagnosis, fungal and parasitic infections, ocular syphilis and differential diagnosis, uveitis in Behçet’s disease, and ocular lymphomas. These topics were presented by a distinguished group of prominent international experts from the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Brazil, and Italy: Prof. Carl Herbort, Prof. Carlos Pavesio, Prof. Andre Curi, and Prof. Luca Cimino.
He also praised the pioneering role of the department in serving the specialty and acknowledged the effective contributions of everyone who organized, participated, and helped make this symposium a success.
It is worth mentioning that the Department of Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery has, over the past years, organized a series of extended symposiums leading up to this event.
