The Research Center at the College of Medicine activates the role of core facilities through specialized workshops to develop researchers' skills.

The Core Facilities Unit (CMRC) at the Research Center of the College of Medicine at King Saud University organized a series of specialized scientific workshops during 2026, as part of the center’s efforts to enhance research skills and develop scientific competencies in vital fields.

Ms. Ghada Al-Nafisah, supervisor of the scientific workshops, explained that the center, represented by the unit, organized four main workshops addressing advanced topics in modern laboratory techniques. The first workshop focused on nucleic acid extraction and purification, PCR techniques, and electrophoresis. The second workshop covered protein analysis using Western Blot. The third workshop highlighted flow cytometry and PBMC isolation, while the fourth workshop addressed the basics of cell culture and related techniques within research laboratories.

She noted that the theoretical lectures in these workshops were delivered by a distinguished group of faculty members: Dr. Maha Saja, Dr. Falwa Al-Zaid, Dr. Alia Al-Shannawi, and Dr. Samha Al-Ayubi. The practical (hands-on) component was conducted by researchers and specialists from the Research Center at the College of Medicine, contributing to the transfer of applied expertise and enhancement of participants’ practical skills.

The workshops targeted students of health colleges, researchers, and laboratory specialists, and contributed to improving participants’ competencies, developing their practical skills, and enhancing the quality of research outputs.

This initiative reflects the vital role of the Core Facilities Unit at the Research Center in supporting the scientific research environment and empowering national talents, in line with King Saud University’s direction toward excellence and innovation.
