The University Obesity Research Center at the College of Medicine recently concluded the activities of the first cohort of its “Doctors in Obesity” program, with the participation of more than 20 physicians from various medical specialties. The program comes as part of the center’s efforts to enhance specialized medical competencies in the diagnosis and treatment of obesity, aiming to enable physicians to acquire modern skills and knowledge in managing obesity patients and to become familiar with the latest advanced diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

For his part, the Director of the University Obesity Research Center, Professor Dr. Asim bin Abdulaziz Al-Fada, explained that the program focused on modern medications and their effectiveness, as well as the role of surgical interventions in obesity treatment. He noted that the program extended over four weeks and included a select group of physicians and consultants specializing in obesity, contributing to improving training quality and raising the level of medical knowledge in this specialized field.

The program comes amid growing global attention to obesity as one of the most prevalent chronic diseases affecting public health, reflecting the importance of specialized training programs in supporting national efforts aimed at preventing obesity and reducing its health complications.
