In the Presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine The Department of Pediatrics Organized an Educational and Interactive Event in Celebration of World Children’s Day

The Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bandar bin Nasser Al-Jefn, inaugurated the World Children’s Day event on Wednesday, November 19, in the Plaza Lobby at the University Medical City, in the presence of the Deputy Medical Director at King Khalid University Hospital, Dr. Abdullah Al-Orainey, several faculty members from the Department of Pediatrics, and staff members from the College and the University Medical City.
The event aimed to promote the health and community knowledge of children across different age groups and enhance health awareness among children and their families. During the event, Al-Jefn received a brief explanation of the key topics focusing on child health.

Dr. Nasser bin Saleh Al-Harbi, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, explained that the event aims to highlight the knowledge-based aspect of child health, educate parents about their children’s health rights, present the role of the university’s healthcare facility, and provide health advice for children and their families through various stations. These stations covered diverse topics, including an introduction to World Children’s Day and children’s rights, the Kingdom’s role within its Vision in supporting child health, newborn genetic screening to emphasize the importance of early detection, healthy nutrition for children with presentations of the food pyramid and examples of balanced meals, and physical and cognitive development to explain developmental stages and indicators of delay.
The event also addressed vaccinations and the correction of misconceptions by highlighting the latest medical recommendations, child safety and protection through showcasing the facility’s role in handling child protection cases and reporting mechanisms, the importance of sleep for children’s health and its impact on growth, and awareness regarding the excessive use of digital devices and its impact on children.
Al-Harbi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone who participated, supported, and contributed to organizing this event dedicated to the cherished group of children in our community.

The event also included distributing gifts to children, light snacks, and a variety of entertaining activities.
