The Department of Family and Community Medicine at the College of Medicine Reviews the Advantages and Challenges of Mendelian Randomization in a Scientific Lecture
The Research Committee of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Committee at the University Family Medicine Center, organized a remote scientific lecture delivered by Professor Dr. Ahmed Bahammam, Professor of Sleep Medicine and Pulmonary Diseases and Director of the University Sleep Medicine and Research Center, entitled “Mendelian Randomization: Advantages and Challenges,” on Tuesday, 30 December 2025. This lecture was held as part of ongoing efforts to enhance research awareness and to improve the competencies of practitioners and researchers in the field of medical studies.
The lecture aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the concept of Mendelian randomization in medical research, highlight common errors in the analysis and interpretation of this type of study, and clarify key concepts and terminology in a simplified manner to assist specialists and interested participants in understanding and applying them correctly. The event was attended by faculty members, researchers, and interested participants. The lecture focused on empowering participants to critically appraise Mendelian randomization studies, enhancing in-depth understanding of their scientific principles, strengths, and limitations, in addition to reviewing the use of big data in this type of research and its impact on the quality of research outputs.
This lecture is part of a series of scientific and educational programs implemented by the two organizing bodies in support of evidence-based scientific research and the promotion of modern medical research practices, contributing to the advancement of health knowledge and the enhancement of academic research standards.
