Complications of Obesity in a Scientific Lecture by Dr. Al-Fadda at Seoul National University

To strengthen research collaboration and exchange expertise in obesity and related chronic diseases, Professor Dr. Asim bin Abdulaziz Al-Fadda, Director of the University Center for Obesity Research at the College of Medicine, visited Seoul National University in South Korea in November 2025 as part of the International Scientific Partnership Program under the Deanship of Scientific Research.

During the visit, Dr. Al-Fadda delivered a scientific lecture entitled:
“Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes,”
in which he reviewed the major complications of obesity, primarily obesity-related fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes, as well as the rapid developments in obesity treatments in recent years and the accompanying clinical challenges and complications.

The lecture focused on modern therapies, particularly GLP-1 receptor agonists, highlighting their effective role in weight reduction and in minimizing obesity- and diabetes-related complications, including fatty liver disease.

In a related scientific activity, Dr. Al-Fadda conducted a specialized workshop on the role of biomarkers in diagnosing chronic diseases and monitoring patients’ responses to medical treatments. The workshop featured productive scientific discussions and an exchange of expertise among specialists at Seoul National University, reflecting the depth of academic collaboration and integration of research efforts between the two institutions.

This visit is part of the College of Medicine at King Saud University’s ongoing efforts to enhance its international research presence.
