The Tenth International Conference of the Saudi Association for Media and Communication Kicks Off

The Tenth International Conference of the Saudi Association for Media and Communication commenced today under the theme “AI Media: Opportunities and Challenges” at Madareem Crown Hotel in Riyadh, with the participation of a distinguished group of experts, academics, and specialists in the fields of media and artificial intelligence.

The two-day conference explores the use of artificial intelligence technologies in media practice, the enhancement of media professionals’ awareness of modern technologies, and the improvement of professional performance. It also highlights practical experiences in digital and sports media, examines the impact of artificial intelligence on the media profession in Saudi society, discusses media investment in modern technologies, and addresses the future of the global media industry.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ali AlDhamyan Al-Anzi, Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Association for Media and Communication, emphasized that the conference builds on the Association’s role since its establishment in 2001 in keeping pace with the rapid transformations in the field of media and communication. He noted that the conference aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 and with the designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence. He explained that artificial intelligence has become a central element in the media industry, making it essential to study its opportunities and challenges and to develop innovative visions that enhance the sector’s efficiency and growth.

For his part, the conference keynote speaker, Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna, stated that the relationship between media and technology has deep historical roots, beginning with the invention of the printing press and extending to modern artificial intelligence technologies. He pointed out that new tools do not eliminate what came before them but rather build upon and add to it. He also noted that future challenges include distinguishing truth from fiction, avoiding superficial information, and addressing the decline of investigative journalism. He stressed the importance of adopting modern technologies through a deliberate and well-considered approach rather than through uncalculated enthusiasm.

Dr. Mubarak bin Wasil Al-Hazmi also delivered a speech on behalf of the participants, affirming that the conference represents an academic platform for dialogue and the exchange of expertise. He noted that artificial intelligence requires deeper partnerships between academic and media institutions in order to build professional and ethical awareness capable of responding to rapid transformations. He further emphasized the importance of preparing media professionals who possess critical skills and analytical vision and who are capable of using artificial intelligence tools to produce responsible and impactful content.

The conference program includes a number of scientific sessions distributed over the two days, including expert panels and discussions on media practices, ethical responsibility, the academic role, media investment, and applications of artificial intelligence in industrial, health, tourism, and sports media. The conference will conclude with a closing session during which recommendations will be presented.

The conference is being held in conjunction with the designation of 2026 as the Year of Artificial Intelligence, reinforcing the role of Saudi media in keeping pace with rapid technological transformations and in developing future-oriented visions that support innovation and digital transformation in the media sector.
