The Dean of the College of Medicine inaugurates the closing exhibition of the National Campaign for Awareness of Spinal Deformities (Scoliosis 15)

The Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bandar bin Nasser Al-Jafn, inaugurated the closing exhibition of the National Campaign for Awareness of Spinal Deformities (Scoliosis 15), led by medical students and physicians in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the college. The event was held in the plaza at King Khalid University Hospital, with the aim of raising awareness about scoliosis (spinal curvature), emphasizing the importance of early detection and proper diagnosis to reduce complications, correcting misconceptions associated with the condition, and enhancing cognitive and psychological support for patients and their families. The event was attended by the Head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Prof. Dr. Waleed bin Mohammed Awwad, Professor of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery (Scoliosis Surgery), Prof. Dr. Abdulmunem Al-Siddiqi, Professor of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and General Supervisor of the campaign, along with a number of academic and medical leaders, and a group of consultants and specialists, marking the conclusion of an awareness campaign that extended across the city of Riyadh.
The campaign, in its fifteenth edition, is considered one of the أبرز health awareness initiatives. It continued for two weeks and aimed to reach various segments of society through key locations including “The Zone,” “Roshn Front,” “River Walk,” and “Riyadh Gallery,” culminating in the closing ceremony that crowned its efforts.
The exhibition included specialized educational booths that presented simplified scientific content about the condition, covering its types, causes, key signs and symptoms, and methods of early screening, especially among children and adolescents, in addition to showcasing diagnostic methods and conservative treatment options, highlighting common myths, and providing guidance on living with the condition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The campaign targeted all segments of society, with a particular focus on parents, children, and adolescents. Interactive booths were dedicated to simplifying health information, alongside providing medical consultations for those interested and seeking proper guidance.
The campaign witnessed wide attendance throughout its duration, with active participation from male and female medical students, a number of physicians and specialized speakers, as well as organizing committees, which contributed to its success in achieving its awareness goals and reinforcing the college’s role in serving the community and promoting health awareness.
At the conclusion of the event, the Dean of the College of Medicine honored the Arab National Bank (ANB) in recognition of its sponsorship and support of the campaign, and its contribution to the success of its awareness programs and the enhancement of its community impact.
