On Saturday, April 14 at 10 AM, King Saud University's Department of Plant Protection will hold a lecture entitled Population genetics in fungi, to be presented by Professor John Leslie, who head's Kansas State University's Department of Plant Pathology.
Leslie is a world authority on the genetics, taxonomy, and population biology of the genus Fusarium, which collectively represents the most important group of fungal plant pathogens, causing various diseases on nearly every economically important plant species.
Dr. Leslie and his colleagues have developed many of the genetic resources, techniques, and theoretical frameworks that are the essential infrastructure for genetic studies of these fungi worldwide. Leslie’s lab maintains a unique worldwide collection of more than 18,000Fusarium strains that is an invaluable resource for those who work in this area. Leslie’s lab has become an important intellectual center of global Fusarium research.
The lecture will take place at the College of Food and Agricultural Sciences building, in the main theater, room 1A 48.
