Dr. Adel A. Al-Hamdan, Associate Professor in King Saud University’s Department of Community Health Sciences and Supervisor of the Health Care Development for the Elderly research Chair, helped organize an awareness campaign titled “Renewed Health.” The event was arranged as a service to the community designed to provide information for the elderly both on how to avoid diseases and also how to deal with chronic diseases while attempting to lessen their implications and possible handicap.
Showcased were the basics about medicinal herbs, prophetic medicine, chronic disease special diets, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, osteoporosis, dehydration, dental care and eye care. Also featured were clinics offering bone density checks, blood glucose measurements, blood pressure tests, height and weight measurements, and special consultations about weight loss or gain.
The event also included a special information session about healthy diets, good psychological health, and the importance of physical activity, offered in cooperation with the Saudi Physical Therapy Association (SPTA). A documentary about Alzheimer’s disease was also presented.
The event was held under the patronage of Princess Madawi bint Mohammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, Vice President of the Saudi Alzheimer’s Disease Association and Chair of its Executive Committee. Also present were Princess Al Joharah bint Al Saud, Director, Prince Salman Social Center’s Women’s Department, and Dr. May Nasser Al-Muammar, Vice Dean for Female Students in KSU’s College of Applied Medical Sciences.
The Health Care Development for the Elderly research Chair organized this event in cooperation with SPTA, the Saudi Dietetic Association, as well as KSU’s departments of Community Health Sciences, Radiological Sciences, and Dental Health Sciences. Also participating were KSU’s College of Nursing and the Basmat Tafaoul Complex in Riyadh.
