King Saud University’s Arabic Language Institute (ALI) would become recognized as the Arabic Linguistics Institute under a recommendation introduced by the University Council. The council also recommended that the institute’s Teachers Preparation Department be renamed the Applied Linguistics Department.
These recommendations initially were made by the Vice Rectorate for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research’s Permanent Committee for Plans and Curriculum.
The committee believes the new name better reflects the university’s new development movement and its role in the job market. The new name also is more compatible with KSU’s aspirations to increase international recognition in the teaching of Arabic to non-speakers of the language.
