HRH Prince Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al Saud visited the King Abdullah Institute of Nanotechnology (KAIN), KSU on February 9, 2015. Prince Turki was welcomed by the KSU Rector Badran Al-Omar and Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Ahmed Al-Aameri. This was the first visit of Prince Turki after his appointment as head of the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) to KSU.
At KAIN, HRH Prince Turki bin Saud with KSU dignitaries has been received by Dean Aws I. Alshamsan with Attoseconds Laboratory’ supervisor Abdullah M. Al-Zeer.
Dr. Alshamsan made a complete presentation in Institute’s conference hall about the activities of KAIN and achievements. After Dr. Al-Shamsan’s speech, HRH Prince Turki bin Saud and his escorts visited the laboratories of the Institute, starting with the Membranes Lab, which applies nanotechnology in water distillation.
Further, HRH Prince Turki bin Saud with KSU Rector Al-Omar and Vice Rector Al-Aameri inspected the polymer membranes and the carbon nanotubes that have been produced by the Institute. They also listened to an explanation of their preparation process and their quality test from Dr. Mansour Al-Hushan.
Moreover, HRH Prince Turki headed towards the Electron Microscopes Labs, where he was briefed about how the scanning electron microscope and the transmission electron microscope. His Highness also witnessed a scientific experiment showing the responsiveness of nano-structured iron oxides (which are produced by the Institutes for the magnetic field) and was informed about their expected medical uses.
HRH Prince Turki also examined the Pulsed Laser Deposition machine, here Dr. Hamed Al-Braithen stepped up to explain the machine and introduce its applications in the field of petroleum and renewable energy.
In addition, HRH Prince Turki with his delegation toured to Attoseconds Lab, which is the symbolic fruit of cooperation between the KSU, the University of Munich and the Max Planck Institute in Germany under the supervision of Professor Abdullah M. Al-Zeer.
It is worth noting that HRH Prince Turki has expressed his appreciation for the research efforts that have exerted and the various results that have been achieved by the Institute in the short period of time it had to work. He also stressed the need to market the Institute and its products to the local, as well as the international, agencies that stand to benefit from it. He also reaffirmed the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology’s commitment to supporting the KSU and the Institute in their work. He later wished everyone success in their attempts to develop the very important field of nanotechnology for our precious kingdom.
