The College of Applied Medical Sciences congratulated the student Mai Khalaf Albogmi and  Prof. Sultana Alhurishi an Assistant Professor Community Health Sciences Department, on their research, which was one of the ten most distinctive scientific posters in the Regional Conference on Public Health, which was held on the 26th and 27th of Sep 2018.

The research was led by Prof. Tawfiq Khojah, professor of Public Health at the Royal College in the United Kingdom. The study was titled "Qualitative Exploration of the Experience of Seeking Healthcare for Orofacial Pain (TMD) Patients," and was conducted at the Eastern Riyadh Specialist Dental Center.

The research team consisted of Mai Albogmi, a specialist of Health Education in the Community Health Sciences Department at KSU, Dr. Hela Alhurishi, a consultant of Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD), and the specialist Mai supervisor Dr. Sultana Alhurishi a faculty member of the Community Health Sciences Department.

The aim of the research was to explore the experience of patients Orofacial Pain and TMD in obtaining health services, and understanding the challenges they face to propose appropriate interventions to improve health outcomes. A number of patients with Orofacial Pain and TMD have been interviewed. The most important preliminary results are the average period of suffering from jaw pain, which is 11 years, in which some patients suffered from increased pain and continued to take painkillers. The main recommendations of the research are to increase the awareness of patients suffering from TMD and to improve patient referral systems in order to reduce the duration of treatment.

The College of Applied Medical Science expressed its gratitude to the Deanship of Scientific Research at King Saud University, the Distinguished and Talented Students Program, and the Eastern Riyadh Specialist Dental Center for their contribution to the research and its success.
