KSU National Plan for Science, Technology and Innovation (NPST) Supervisor Ahmed Al-Khazim informed that “The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has endorsed 35 research projects at the King Saud University with a budget of more than 60 million Riyals, in its September 2014 Cycle”. The selected projects represent 41% of the research projects submitted to the AAAs. They also represented 18% of the research projects that were highly endorsed by the AAAs.

NPST supervisor Al-Khazim also stated that the KSU program (NPST) spares no effort in supporting researchers and spurring them to improve the quality of their research proposals and their scientific and technical outputs. He said the NPST was now analyzing the international evaluation procedure that resulted in the selection of the 35 projects, in order to improve scientific research project proposal procedures and submission.

Further, professor Al-Khazim informed that 17% of the selected projects fall within the medical, health and agricultural technologies, while 14% pertain to environmental technologies. Nano technology accounts for 11% of the projects; information technology accounts for 9%; space and biology account for 6%, while the remaining technologies account for 1% to 3% of the selected projects.

At the conclusion of his statement Professor Al-Khazim asserted that the NPST keenly follows the directives of the KSU Rector and the Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, regarding the quality of the submitted proposals and the outcome regarding project results and KSU’s effective contribution to achieving the goals of the NPST.
