Engg. Mohammed Muneer Khan from Advanced Manufacturing Institute presented a lecture on surface improvement of Additive Manufactured parts by laser ablation.
In his lecture Engg. Mohammed Muneer Khan stated that the current additive manufacturing techniques lacks surface quality and that they have to be post processed so as to be used in practical applications. He presented the available surface finishing and smoothing techniques for additive manufactured parts.
Furthermore, he showed the use of laser ablation for surface improvement of Electron beam melted Ti-6Al-4V parts which are used in biomedical and aerospace applications. By laser ablation he showed 60% reduction in surface roughness of the parts without much material being removed.
The Lecture was attended by a group of professors, researchers, and students of the Advanced Manufacturing institute and college of engineering.
