Dr. Farrukh KhanDr. Farrukh Aslam Khan, an Associate Professor at the Center of Excellence in Information Assurance (CoEIA), King Saud University was invited as a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Computer Science and Allied Technologies (ICCSAT 2018) held on December 19-20, 2018. The conference took place at Lahore Garrison University located in the historical city of Lahore, Pakistan.

The goal of the conference was to provide an international forum for sharing knowledge and expertise in theory, methodology and application of Computer Science and Information Technology. ICCSAT aimed at keeping abreast of the current development and innovation in advanced research in the field of Computer Science and Allied Technologies. The conference provided the opportunity to bring together leading researchers, academicians, scientists and engineers in the domain of interest from around the world.

The title of the keynote address delivered by Dr. Farrukh Khan was “The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Cyber Security.” In his speech, he highlighted the technological advancements, current state-of-the-art, applications, and challenges in using Artificial Intelligence in the area of Cyber Security. He also discussed various open issues and future directions related to machine learning, cognitive computing, and deep learning for various cyber security problems and applications.

In his speech, he said, “With the rapid increase in the volume and complexity of threats during the past few years, security researchers and engineers have started to take advantage of various elements of AI in order to decrease the burden on human analysts. More precisely, AI is used in such a case where a machine or device is required to do a task, which would need intelligence if attempted by a human being.”

He also talked about various technologies within the AI domain including machine learning, natural language generation, speech recognition, knowledge representation, rule-based systems, and deep learning.

He concluded his speech by highlighting some open issues, challenges, and future directions where AI can be used to counter security threats, cyber attacks, vulnerabilities, and invasions against critical infrastructures.

The conference was attended by a large number of local and international participants who gave research talks and delivered their research presentations. Other well-known professors and researchers were also invited to give keynote speeches, invited talks, and tutorials on various topics related to Computer Science and Information Technology.
