"Sight Goes Not Insight" a Celebration in Women Campus

     Under the auspices of Dr. Mayaa’ Mohamed Al Qurashi (Dean of Science and Medical Studies Departments), Dr. Nadia Al-Ghreimil (Assistant Supervisor of External Joint Supervision Program), Dr. Dunia Al-Farraj (Assistant of Vice-Dean of Female student affairs) and Dr. May Alrashed (Vice Dean for Female Students at College of Applied Medical Sciences), the Optometry Doctor Club held its biggest events this semester on Sunday Dec. 10th " Sight Goes Not Insight ".

     Dr. Feda Aljaser (Deputy of Optometry Sciences Department) welcomed the attendees along with the club Supervisor Basma Al-Otaibi, her Deputy Fatema Al-Amry and club members.

     This awareness-building event aims to raise awareness about eye diseases that cause blindness and how to prevent them. During the event the blind artist Nora Al-Majrashi hosted an on stage live show where she painted portraits of the attendees by touching their faces and painting them with an accuracy up to 75%. Moreover, her paintings were exhibited in a gallery accompanying the event. Proving that she might have lost her sight but not her insight.

     The event was presented in an interactive way to simulate vision changes when you suffer from Glaucoma, Cataract, Nyctalopia and Diabetic retinopathy.

     During the event, a variety of optical devices for people with visual impairments were shown, including magnifiers, telescopes and screens used by those who are nearly blind. In addition, a film was shown conveying global visual impairment statistics, and the hardships of people with visual impurity and how they adapt to low/loss vision. 

     By the end of the event, the members of the club expressed their pride and appreciation to the "Optometry Doctor Club", they also extended their thanks to the supervisor Basma Al-Otaibi and the heads of committees for their efforts, as well as express their pride of the artist Nora and her remarkable paintings.
